My name is Julia Johnson.
Hello
I connected with Cindy Dwyer in 2009 when a colleague introduced us through e-mail.  We soon visited each other's classrooms, shared curriculum ideas and quickly connected.  After several discussions about the issue of isolation in the field of Gifted Education, we decided to do something about it by starting the Gifted Education Network.  Our mission is fundamentally simple: we don't need any additional stress or obligations; we just need a place to connect with one another.

Mrs. Julia C. Johnson graduated from Adelphi University with a BA in English, a Master's in Education and also holds a certification extension in Gifted and Talented Education.  Julia currently coordinates the EXCEL Program at Islip School District, and also works as an Educational Consultant. Julia has a background in teaching yoga and meditation and has been has been requested to lecture on the topics of Connecting Kids with Nature, Character Education, Technology Integration, enhancing and developing gifted programs and more. Julia was the recipient of the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) “Making It Happen” Award, the OSSP (Open Space Stewardship Program) “Outstanding Teacher” Award, and has been published in the Newsletter of the NAGC (National Association of Gifted Children) Creativity Network. She served on the AGATE (Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education) Conference Committee, and currently is on the OSSP (Open Space Stewardship Program) Advisory Committee, and the Seatuck Environmental Association Education Committee. Julia has consulted for Nassau BOCES and is a member of the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Coaching Network.  In her spare time, Julia enjoys spending time with her husband, Don, and daughters, Sarah and Liliana. Cindy's life journey led her to teaching  fourth grade general education in 2015.  Since then, Julia has continued to carry out their vision for GEN.
